Today is an unpaid furlough day for me and Sweetie burned a paid day off to hang out with me. We also leveraged the long weekend into ten straight days off by scheduling vacation days for the rest of next week. Too bad we can’t really afford to do anything spectacular.
I’ll write, of course, though not this morning. I’ve written 4,800 words so far this week against a target of 5,000. This afternoon I’ll knock out the rest and then some and next week I’ll write at least another 5,000, maybe more. We plan to tackle some yard and household tasks that have long gone undone due to work stress and lack of time. Of course we have some fun stuff planned, too.
It looks like I’ll most likely complete the first draft of NHI well before the Florida Writers Association conference in October. Not that I plan on pitching it there, but it will be nice to have it done. Then I can get back to a few things–short stories unfinished, a romance novella that needs extensive revision, and planning the next Big Project. I’ve also been tinkering with my first finished novel and plan to schedule some specific time for that, as well.
Whoops, lost my focus. Vacation. Ten days of not having to answer to the call of the workday. Ten days of not having to think in VB, VBScript, or XML if I don’t want to. (I’m nerd enough that I’ll want to, but at least it will be for my own purposes, not for work.) My blood pressure has already dropped.
