Writing Update

April 14th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I haven’t posted about my writing lately, so here’s an update:

  • The agent who asked to see the full manuscript of SHE passed on representing it. The rejection note was actually very encouraging–she liked the novel, and others at her agency did as well. They didn’t feel it was something they could sell because of the heavy magic component to the story.
  • I’m working on the minor revisions to SHE that I wanted to make. I expect to finish those changes by the middle of next week. After that, I’ll polish the prose in time for Murder in the Grove and start submitting it to agents again.
  • BULLET CATCH is on the back burner for now so that I can focus on SHE. I need to let Bullet Catch simmer a little longer before I move on, anyway. I have some solid material for it, but it needs a little depth. I expect to get started on it in earnest after Murder in the Grove.

I’m sorry they did not pick your book up. But there are different publishing houses for a reason. Chris and I have been reading books that have that magic element along with the story. The publishing house for one of them is EOS an imprint of HarperCollings Publishing. You might check them out.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m looking for an agent rather than an editor–most of the big publishing houses (including, I believe, HarperCollins) will not even look at unagented submissions. I’m sure there’s an agent out there for SHE, it’s just a matter of finding that person.
