• I’m in love with Carolyn. She’s in love with me. It works out pretty well for us.
• I weigh 180 pounds. That’s 15 more than I’d like, but 27 less than this time last year.
• I’m in reasonably good health.
• I wish my teeth were whiter. My dentist says that my teeth are their natural color, but I’m going to have them whitened this year. It’s the only thing about my appearance that I don’t like.
• I have some gray hair. I don’t mind it, but it mystifies me. I still feel like I’m in my 20s.
• I’m writing a second novel. It’s much better already than the first.
• I believe that I am largely in control of my life.
• I own a home that is very much like the house I imagined for myself as a child, except without the moat, laser cannon turrets, or bowling alley. I still want the moat and laser cannon turrets.
• I’m a pretty good cook.
• I own a pickup truck. I never thought of myself as a pickup truck kind of guy, but I like it. Sometimes when I’m driving around town, I pretend that it’s a deep-space exploration ship. I’ve done that with every vehicle I’ve ever owned, though.
• I have a stable job. I’d like to be financially independent, but I’d rather focus my energy on writing and other artistic pursuits than on starting my own company.
• I like science fiction, fantasy, and mystery novels.
• I still read history.
• I also still read comic books.
• I want to learn Latin so that I can read it without a translation dictionary and a bottle of aspirin.
• I play guitar. I had stopped for a while, but now I practice a little every morning. I accompany myself while I sing.
• I still think my best years are ahead of me.
